A friend at work says, “You can only be in the weeds if you care.” It’s great gallows humor. But you can care and let go of the outcome.
Caring and letting go of the outcome means you embrace process. It means experimentation and learning are the goals. It’s not the right answer for every project. It is the right answer for a project you hope will stretch your skills and comfort level. It’s paradoxical, but if you’re learning a new skill, caring can hurt.
There’s another word for caring and letting go of the outcome. It’s play.
